Immunize Nevada Recognized as Healthiest Place to Work by The Chamber

Reno, NV (November 5, 2014) – Immunize Nevada was named The Chamber’s “Healthiest Place to Work” in the small category, at the 7th Annual Employer Health Forum held on Thursday, October 16.

The spirit of the Healthiest Place to Work Award is to celebrate local businesses that have successfully implemented unique health-inspired programs, while sharing best practices and providing ideas to others so that they too can begin the journey of enhancing their own corporate culture of healthy living.

Immunize Nevada, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to improving Nevada’s immunization rates, was selected for this award for their ongoing commitment to creating a healthier culture. The organization offers flexible work arrangements that allow employees to create their own work schedule based on their personal and family needs. Just a few examples of the other perks that improve employee health include:

  • Sixteen hours of paid time time-off to volunteer
  • Company-sponsored race entry fees
  • Telecommuting options
  • New parents have the option of bringing their baby to work

In addition to health, dental and vision insurance benefits, employees have access to employer-paid short- and long-term disability benefits that provide coverage for life events such as pregnancy. The employee handbook states: It is your professional responsibility to maintain a healthy work-life balance, because doing so will ensure that your creativity, drive and motivation stay fresh and vibrant.

“Our mission is about creating a healthier community, so it’s important that we practice what we preach,” said Immunize Nevada Executive Director Heidi Parker. “Healthy habits are contagious. We encourage one another to eat well, exercise, take vacations and unplug. It’s about working toward the balance between family and work, and creating an environment that empowers each person to take charge of their own health.”

The organization also requires all employees to be fully immunized and makes sure opportunities for annual flu vaccines are available.

Immunize Nevada exists to support community partners to successfully implement effective immunization efforts throughout Nevada; advocate for, inform and educate about the need for and benefits of vaccines; and facilitate greater collaboration statewide to achieve Nevada’s immunization priorities. Through outreach, advocacy and education, Immunize Nevada will create a pro-immunization environment that results in a dramatic increase in immunization rates to exceed the national average by 2020.
