Don’t Procrastinate: Vaccinate

April 30, 2013—(Reno, Nev.) Immunize Nevada, Washoe County Health District and Washoe County School District are partnering to offer students Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine) and annual flu vaccinations this May. Clinics will be held at area schools through May 16 on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clinics target students who will enter 7th grade next fall, but are also open to anyone due for a Tdap booster or flu vaccine. Fees may apply.

“Any student entering 7th grade in Nevada next fall is required to have a Tdap vaccination, or risks being excluded from attending classes,” said Heidi Parker, Immunize Nevada Executive Director. “We hope parents will take advantage of these convenient spring clinics to avoid the back-to-school frenzy for immunizations that often happens the week before school starts in August.”

This program is available through Immunize Nevada as part of a pilot project. Insurance will be billed without a co-pay for those with qualifying insurance including Medicaid and Nevada Check-up.  Those without insurance or who are underinsured and qualify for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program are asked to pay $20, however no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Parents can check for their children’s immunization records by contacting their current health care provider, visiting https://izrecord.nv.gov or calling Nevada WebIZ at 775-684-5954 or 877-689-3249 (Toll-free within NV only).
