Last Minute Back-to-School Immunization Opportunities This Week

RENO, NEV. (August 4, 2014) – The start of the school year in Washoe County is less than a week away leaving little time for parents to get their child’s back-to-school immunizations up-to-date. Immunize Nevada and multiple community partners are hosting three clinics this week in Washoe County. There is no cost for vaccinations at any of the following events, however a $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of the vaccine. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Those with insurance should bring their cards.

Additional clinic information can be found at ImmunizeNevada.org/schoolclinics including opportunities for students in Carson City, Douglas County and other rural communities.

Tdap Only Clinics for Students Entering 7th Grade:
Nevada state law requires all those entering 7th grade to get a Tdap booster. There are two clinics open to the public this week that will offer the Tdap vaccine.

Thursday, August 7, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Vaughn Middle School, 1200 Bresson Avenue, Reno, (Tdap only)

Friday, August 8, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sparks Middle School, 2275 18th Street, Sparks, (Tdap only)

This event is made possible through a partnership with Immunize Nevada, Amerigroup, Washoe County Health District, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and El Sol.

Additional Community Clinics
In addition to the above community events, there are several clinics in Washoe County offering required immunizations. A complete list is online at www.ImmunizeNevada.org/schoolclinics , however appointments are often required and limited. Community pharmacies are also a viable option for parents seeking a Tdap shot for their child entering 7th grade. Parents should call their pharmacy for information.
